Research

Anasa tristis crypts stained with phalloidin that contain dTomato tagged Caballaronia bacterial symbionts

How do symbionts intact with host structures?

Primary questions:

How do organisms structurally change through interactions with each other or the environment?

Approaches:

Quantitative observation that builds hierarchical conceptual frameworks.

Model systems:

Ciliates, fungi, insects, and bacteria.

Also highly familiar with human cell culture and zebrafish.

Techniques:

Microscopy (Widefield, Confocal, and SIM), histology and staining, molecular biology, microbiology, and laboratory husbandry of hemipteran insects, ciliates, filamentous fungi, and cell culture.
